► (1632-1723) Arquitecto y matemático inglés. Construyó y restauró un número considerable de iglesias, el Teatro Sheldon de Oxford y la catedral de San Pablo.

Arquitecto, astrónomo y geómetra británico. Enseñó astronomía en el Gresham College de Londres (1657–61) y en Oxford (1661–73), y no se dedicó a la arquitectura sino hasta 1662, cuando fue contratado para diseñar el Sheldonian Theatre en Oxford. Aunque era clásico en su forma, el teatro estaba techado con una novedosa armadura de madera que fue producto del enfoque estudioso y empírico de Wren. Como inspector de obras de la corona (1669–1718), tuvo a cargo la reconstrucción de más de 50 iglesias destruidas en el gran incendio de Londres. Mientras tanto, desarrolló diseños para la catedral de San Pablo, una tarea que lo mantuvo ocupado hasta su término en 1710. Otras de sus obras, generalmente en estilo barroco inglés, son la biblioteca clásica del Trinity College en Cambridge (1676–84), ampliaciones al Hampton Court (comenzadas en 1689) y el Greenwich Hospital (iniciado en 1696). Wren fue sepultado en la catedral de San Pablo, cerca de donde está la famosa inscripción: "Lector, si buscas un monumento, mira a tu alrededor.
